BoroMe

Wakama Ene | UI Designer | Tools: Figma

Company Overview:

BoroMe is a fintech company, based in Sub-Saharan Africa with over a million users, specializing in providing financial loan services for businesses and individuals. They required an upgrade in their app version for both the desktop and mobile application, so I was recruited by the Project Manager as a UI designer for the project.

Problem statement:

They needed improved aesthetics and new features to be added to their App. The Project Manager pointed out that the App required an upgrade. He wanted the App to have a new feel but still maintain the company’s brand.

Team:

I worked as a UI Designer, working closely with the Project Manager, Lead UX Designer, Software Engineers, Product Owners, Data Analysts, and more. The UI/UX Design Team comprised of:

  • 1. Ugo Okafor (Lead UI/UX Designer)
  • 2. Wakama Ene
  • Scope and constraints:

The team was quite diverse and it had both a Web App and Mobile App, so the scope of the project were defined as follows:

  • 1. Visual Design (Web Application)
  • 2. Visual Design (Mobile Application)
  • 3. Usability Testing

  • When I was working on the project there was one major constraint, which was that I didn't have to do Primary Research/Secondary Research myself, which was because I was working with a team and they had that covered. However because of this I wasn't able to put myself in the shoes of the user, which is something I love to do when designing.

    Design Process & Solution:

    Visual Design for Web Application:

I was involved in the improvement of the look and feel of the App, in all this I worked closely with the project manager. As the UI designer, I created UI designs for the search page, also the upgraded design for the customers dash board. This was done was done with React language (Javascript language used for the development) in view so that I dont deviate from the previous app version.

    Visual Design for Mobile Application:

I also contributed to the design of the mobile App and some components used, this involved working on pages such as the Loan Success page, Dashboard, On-boarding etc. I was able to fulfil my tasks successfully. Also, we improved the UI of the app by creating a new design that flowed seamlessly. The design had much better graphics and highlighted the company's style and color schemes.

    Usability Testing:

I also performed the in-house usability testing of the App, with input from the Project Manager. This involved making sure the process flow of the design was hitch-free and user-friendly. I learnt a lot while doing this about the importance of Usability testing in the design process of apps. Also, I learnt a lot about project management in IT because the project was well managed, we worked with platforms like clubhouse for the project management and loom to help record our tasks.

The only tool used for this project was Figma. This is because the project work was started on Figma before I was recruited for the project.

    Conclusion

The company, especially the Project Manager loved the outcome of the project. They were very satisfied with the quality of results I delivered for them. The whole process was enjoyable. They were well organized and made working with them a pleasure. To know more dowload the App here and remember “Design is Life”.

    What did I learn?

I learnt about the power of team work and what it means to be a team player. It was a wonderful experience.
